Title:-Study of efficacy of pancha-tikta basti( Medicated Enemata) in
kushtha with special reference to vicharchika( Eczema)
Dr. Kshipra Avinash Pundale had submitted her dissertation
to the Pune University for the P.G. degree M.D.
(Kaya Chikitsa). Her guide was Dr. Pramod Kulkarni & Research center was
Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune (M.S.) India.
Dr.
Kshipra Pundale in her research work tried
to study the efficacy of pancha-tikta basti (medicated enemata) in Eczema (Vicharchika).
She had enrolled 30 patients of Eczema and pancha-tikta basti was given in the
dose of 400 ml, for 15 days, Decoction enemata was followed by oil enemata on
first day
Assessment criteria was as follows –
I)
Amount of discharge from the skin lesion – No secretions
= 0 Grade, Mild secretions = 1st Grade, moderate secretions = 2nd
Grade, severe secretions = 3rd Grade.
II)
Smell of discharge was also given the grades like no
smell = 0 grade, mild 1st grade, moderate 2nd grade,
severe 3rd grade.
III)
Assessment
of symptoms like burning sensation, pain, and numbness were also done by
giving gradations from 0- 3rd grade. The frequency of itching
episodes was measured that is whether once, twice or thrice a day itching
occurs.
Above research was concluded as follows –
i)
Panchtikta Basti had shown the good
results in Eczema for reducing the symptoms like discharge (93%), burning
sensation (84%) numbness (77%), itching (70%).
ii)
There
are less results for giving relief for fowl smell thickness of skin.
iii)
Panchtikta
basti is best indicated when vicharchika has involvement of rasa & rakta
body tissues rather than mamsa dhatu involvement ( Mamsa gami Vicharchika )
Note – Contents of Panchtikta
decoction enemata – Patola , Nimba, Bhunimba, Rasana, Saptaparna each drug 15
gm , total 75 gms + 1280 ml water - boiled to reduce it 320 ml. Add 7 to 10 gms
of paste of sarshapa ( mustard ) & 80
ml of cows ghee.
