Title:- Clinical study of effect of Kirmani ova (Artemissia Martina) on
Kaphaja krumi with special reference to gandupada krumi.
Dr.
Madhuri Rao had submitted her dissertation to Pune University
for the P. G. degree M.D. (Chikitsa) in the year 1998. Her guide was Dr. B. K.
Bhagwat & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.
Dr.
Madhuri Rao in her research work tried to study effect of Kirmani ova (Artemissia martina) on worms (krumi)
with special reference to gandupada krumi. 2.5
gms Kirmani ova given at night with koshna jala & after seven days of
treatment Haritaki churna (Terminalia
chebula powder) was given. Treatment continued for three weeks.
For
clinical study 40 patients were included. They were of the age of 8 years to 16
years of both sexes. These patients were divided into two groups.
Group I – 30
patients were treated with Kirmani ova.
Group II – 10
patients treated with kampillaka churna.
120 mg of kampillaka churna was given at night with koshna jal, after seven
days of treatment Haritaki churna was given as anuloman. The treatment was
continued for three weeks.
Criteria for assessment was
as follows-
i)
Relief
from signs & symptoms produced by krumi.
ii)
Stool free from ova after the treatment.
iii)
Strength
of the body. A) Increase in body weight B) Increase in haemoglobin levels.
Gradation was done as follows-
1) Complete cure
= 100% cure means a) stool free from ova or cysts. b) Complete relief in signs
& symptoms.
2) Markedly cure
= 50-75% cure a) stool free from ova or cysts consequitively. b) Some signs
& symptoms especially Vaivarnya, daurbalya & karshya present even after
the treatment.
3) Moderately relieved = 25-50% a) presence of ova in stools after the treatment. b) Complete
relief in signs & symptoms after treatment.
4) Not relived =
0-25% a) presence of ova in stools after the treatment. b) Partial relief in
symptoms after treatment.
Study was concluded as follows-
When 2.5 gms Kirmani ova given at night with luke warm water for 7 days
followed by Haritaki churna (Terminalia chebula powder) & when cycle was repeated for three weeks
showed good results as Anti helminthic .
76% of patients were relived completely 7%
relieved markedly & 7% moderately relived, 10% patients were not relived in
group I. In group II patients 50 % completely 10% markedly & 20% moderately
relived. Aggregate action of Kirmani ova was krimighna kleda shoshaka on
Kaphaja krumi i.e. gandupada krumi & it is more effective on kaphaja krumi
i.e. gandupada krumi than kampillaka churna
