Title:- Single blind study of efficacy
of Guduchi kashaya (Decoction of Tinospora cardifolia) with special ref. to
serum bilirubin levels.
Dr. Nilima Upadhye has
submitted this dissertation to Pune
University in the year 2007
for M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa/medicine). Her
guide was Dr. Sadanand Deshpande and research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya,
Pune, and Nanal hospital (M.S.) India .
Trial of decoction Tinospora cardifolia was carried out on
40 patients of viral hepatitis to study action of Tinospora cardifolia on serum
bilirubin levels.
A randomized single blind controlled clinical trial was
carried out for minimum 21 days.
Patients having
raised serum bilirubin were selected. Serum bilirubin levels more than 15
mg were excluded. Patients having Ayurvedic signs of bahupitta kamala (Hepatitis)
were selected and patients of Ruddhapath kamala were excluded.
Dose of Tinospora
cardifolia with honey was 60 ml in morning for 21 days.
Patients were divided in
Group A (20 Patients) and Group B (20 patients). Group A was given 60 ml
decoction of Tinospora cardifolia; Group B was given Erandapatra decoction
Serum Bilirubin of every patient was done.
Thesis was concluded in the following manner-
When Decoction of
Guduchi ( Tinospora cardifolia ) was given with honey was 60 ml in
morning for 21 days ,it markedly reduced Sr.Bilirubin level & showed
positive results in Viral Hepatitis
1)
Decoction of
Tinospora cardifolia markedly reduces serum bilirubin levels in the patients of
viral hepatitis.
2)
Tinospora
cardifolia is more effective than Eranda in lowering serum bilirubin in
hepatitis.
