Title:-To study the effect of kantakari ghruta on vata kasa (Dry cough).

This dissertation has submitted to Pune University in the year 1998-99 for M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa/medicine).

 Ayurvedic term kasa stands for cough in modern medicine.

According to Ayurveda chronicity of cough can lead to Asthma, T.B., laryngitis hence cough should be treated at its primary stage.

Total 17patients were taken for the study out of which 17 were male and 17 were female, they were treated with kantakari Ghruta.

Conclusion was as follows-

When Kantakari Ghee was used 1 TSF BD for 8 days ,it showed remarkable improvement in the symptom of Dry Cough .

1)    Kantakari Ghruta can give marked relief in the symptoms of dry cough within a period of 8 days.
2)    Kantakari ghruta can be used for all types of constitution.



Single blind study of efficacy of Guduchi kashaya (Decoction of Tinospora cardifolia) with special ref. to serum bilirubin levels.

Dr. Nilima Upadhye has submitted this dissertation to Pune University in the year 2007 for M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa/medicine).  Her guide was Dr. Sadanand Deshpande and research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, and Nanal hospital (M.S.) India.

          Trial of decoction Tinospora cardifolia was carried out on 40 patients of viral hepatitis to study action of Tinospora cardifolia on serum bilirubin levels.

          A randomized single blind controlled clinical trial was carried out for minimum 21 days.

          Patients having raised serum bilirubin were selected. Serum bilirubin levels more than 15 mg were excluded. Patients having Ayurvedic signs of bahupitta kamala (Hepatitis) were selected and patients of Ruddhapath kamala were excluded.

          Dose of Tinospora cardifolia with honey was 60 ml in morning for 21 days.

Patients were divided in Group A (20 Patients) and Group B (20 patients). Group A was given 60 ml decoction of Tinospora cardifolia; Group B was given Erandapatra decoction

          Serum Bilirubin of every patient was done.

Thesis was concluded in the following manner-

When Decoction of  Guduchi ( Tinospora cardifolia ) was given with honey was 60 ml in morning for 21 days ,it markedly reduced Sr.Bilirubin level & showed positive results in Viral Hepatitis

1)    Decoction of Tinospora cardifolia markedly reduces serum bilirubin levels in the patients of viral hepatitis.
2)    Tinospora cardifolia is more effective than Eranda in lowering serum bilirubin in hepatitis. 



Effect of Nimbapatra svarasa on Madhumeha.

Dr. Dilip Ghule had submitted his dissertation to Pune University for the P. G. degree M.D. (KayaChikitsa) in the year 1997. His guide was Dr. B. K. Bhagwat.

          Dr. Dilip Ghule in his research work tried to study effect of Nim leaves juice on Diabetes. He had prepared Nimbapatra svarasa ghanavati. 500 mg thrice a day was administered.

          Clinical study was carried out on 60 patients. Patients having BSL more than 280 & having complications like hypertension, heart disease, fever etc were excluded. Patients were divided into 3 groups.

Group A – Patients treated with Nimbapatra svarasa ghanavati.
Group B – Nimbapatra svarasa with allopathic treatment.
Group C- Patients managed by proper diet only.

          Criteria for assessment were BSL & urine sugar.

          Study was concluded as follows-

After giving Tab Nimbapatra ( Azadirecta Indica)  Ghana 500 mg TDS showed good results in the patients of Diabetes Mellitus ( with Kapha predominance like overweight etc)

1)    Patients having kapha prakruti was benefited by drug.
2)    Patients having dhatukshayaja Madhumeha was not beneficial by the drug.
3)    Patients having symptoms like Pipasa, Madhura, Shukla mootrata, Tandra, Hastapadataladaha, Snigdha-picchila-gurugatrata,  fowl breath, Talu-jivha-dantamalotpatti were cured by the drug.

Dr. Somnath Hebali had submitted his dissertation to Pune University) in the year 1998. His guide was Dr. B. K. Bhagwat & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.

Researcher explained that Haritaki ( Terminalia Chebula ) ,due to it’s Laxative & Carminative properties ,shows Rasayan Effect for Purishavaha srotas ( Excretory channel for stool)

He had enlisted function of  Haritaki after rasayana karma as follows
Deepana,Pachana, Anulomana, Malashodhana, Dooshta antarvrana shodhana etc.

Study of effect of Raktamokshan(Blood letting) in Kshudrakushta like Dadru & Vicharchika.

Dr. Sarita Kambli had submitted her dissertation to Pune University for the P. G. degree M.D. (KayaChikitsa) in the year 1998. Her guide was Dr. B. M. Kulkarni & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.

          Dr. Sarita Kambli in her research work tried to study effect of blood letting in kshudrakushtha especially Dadru & Eczema (Vicharchika).

          For clinical study she had included 50 patients having complaints like dryness of skin, itching, secretions pitika & black discolouration of skin. Round, red disclouration of skin with itching & rash was diagnosed as Dadrukushtha. Blood letting was done with the help of Siravyadh & Jalaukavacharana (application of leech).50-200 cc blood was taken out &
1 to 6 leeches were used at a time.
          Study was concluded as follows --
50 to 200 cc of Blood letting with Leeches & venupuncture was found useful to relieve the complaints like Itching ,secretions & discoloration in skin diseases like Eczema
64% patients were cured totally.

Study of utility of Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) in vicharchika (eczema).

Dr. Anupama Lonandkar had submitted her dissertation to Pune University for the P. G. degree M.D. (Chikitsa) in the year 1997.
Her guide was Dr. Shrikant Wagh & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.

          Dr. Anupama Lonandkar in her research work tried to study utility of Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) in eczema (vicharchika).

          50 patients having age between 10 to 60 years were selected for the study. Patients were divided into two groups.

Group A – 25 patients treated with 1 gm Daruharidra (2 tablets of 500 mg) thrice a day with warm water along with external application.

Group B – 25 patients treated with external of Daruharidra in the form of powder, decoction, taila & ghee according to doshik anubandha.

          Criteria of assessment were as follows.
Special attention was given to the following lakshana- 1) Itching, erythema, oedema, exudation/crusting, hyperpigmentaion, thickening/lichenification. Gradations were done as per severity of symptoms.

          Study was concluded as follows. –
Tab Daruharidra(Berberis Aristata)  500 mg Tab TDS with external application of Daruharidra was found useful in the cases of Eczema
The drug was effective in eczema. The drug in dose of 3 gm/day was found to be optimum dose for an adult of average weight is safe for long time with no side effects.

The assessment of the efficacy of shirodhara in treatment of vishada (Depression).



Title:- The assessment of the efficacy of shirodhara in treatment of vishada (Depression).       

Dr. Anjali Damle had submitted her dissertation to Pune University for the P. G. degree M.D. (Panchkarma) in the year 2002. Her guide was Dr. Rajendra Huparikar & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.

          Dr. Anjali Damle in her research work tried to assess efficacy of shirodhara in treatment of depression.

          Total 31 patients were included for clinical study, 5 patients were dropped out. Patients having psychosis & any organic brain syndrome were excluded.

          Tila taila was used for shirodhara. 1 liter of oil was used in seven days. Time of administration of shirodhara was in the morning between 7 a.m. to 12.00 noon, for 15 to 90 mins & for 15 days.

          Procedure carried out was as follows-
Patient was asked to lay down in supine position, coved with cotton towel. Lightly closed eyes were covered with the cotton strips. Pot was arranged at mid eye brow point, three inches above the layer of skin. Lukewarm Tila taila was pored in pot & stream of the oil was concentrated at the mid eye brow point. Light swing was given to the pot to cover more regions of the head. Oil was recollected & rewarmed & refilled in the pot to recycle dhara continuously. Procedure was continued till 15 to 90 min. Cotton pieces were removed slowly. Patient was allowed to stay 10 min in the same position. Patient was instructed to avoid exercise, intercourse, and exhausting schedule as much as possible.

          Assessment of the patient was done as follows-
The universal Hamaltans depression rating scale was used.
Gradation was decided according to severity of symptoms.

Study was concluded as follows-
When Shirodhara was given with seasame oil for 15 days ,it showed quite improvement in the patients of Depression ( Vishada)

Shirodhara had significant effect on prana vayu  



Efficacy of Gokshur & Shatavari Decoction in Mootrakruchra( Dysuria)

This dissertation is submitted to Pune University for the P. G. degree M.D. (Chikitsa) in the year 1997.

          In his research work Dr. had tried to study efficacy of Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Shatavari (Asparaguus racemosus) decoction in difficult micturation (Mootrakruchra)

          40 patients were selected for the clinical study having age group between 12 to 70years, for 15 days.

          30 ml dose of decoction was administered before meals with honey & crystal sugar (Sita). Urine analysis was done.

          Following diseases show difficult micturation symptom.
1) Urakshata, 2) kaphaja Arsha, 3) Mootrashmari, 4) Ushnavata, 5) Mootrodavarta, 6) Mootravruddhi, 7) Bastividradhi, 8) Shanirmeha & 9) Lootadansha etc.

          Study was concluded as follows
Decoction of Gokshur (Tribulus Terrestris) & Shatavari ( Asparegus recemosus) in a dose of 30 ml BD ,before meals with Honey & crystal sugar gave relief to the patients of Dysuria .Also Urine Examination showed reduction in pus cells & calcium oxalate crystals .
Out of 40 patients 26 patients were totally cured. 10 patients were not cured & 4 patients were little bit recovered.
          Due to drug pus cells & calcium oxalate in the urine was reduced.
